The first week of May half marathons in California are checked off for the year. Half Marathon Calendar USA will update the 2018 half marathon dates as they roll in from the race organizer. Next up, for Saturday May 13th, and Sunday May 14th, there is a mixture of trail half marathons, smaller no frill half marathons, a half marathon for wine lovers .... the Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon, as well as the bigger hype half marathons to consider, such as Disney Tinkerbell Half Marathon.
On Saturday the 13th in California, there is the Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon, Trail Run at Sly Park 13.1mi, Brocchini Farms Rina's Run Half Marathon, Wolf Pack Mother's Day Run Half Marathon, Cinderella Trail Run Half, Muir Woods Half Marathon, China Camp Trail Run Half Marathon, and the Tommy Scott Memorial LAX Run Half Marathon.
On Sunday the 14th of May, there is the BWR Mother's Day Half Marathon, Coyote Lake Trail Run 1/2 Marathon, Race for Literacy Half Marathon, and Disney Tinkerbell Half Marathon.
The following weekend, May 20th and 21st, also offers a variety to choose from, from trail running to coastline courses.
Taking place Saturday May 20th, you have the Wildcat Half Marathon in El Sobrante, the ZombiRunner Bay Trail Half Marathon in Palo Alto, and the Tommy Scott LAX Run Half Marathon in Los Angeles.
On Sunday May 21st, you have the Kaiser Permanente Avenue of the Vines Half Marathon in Lodi (a flat fast course, starting & finishing at Woodbridge Winery), the Bank of Marin Running Festival Half Marathon in Novato (a scenic, rolling hills course), Surfer's Path Capitola Half Marathon in Santa Cruz (with views of the Monterey Bay Coastline along the course), and Finish the Ride, Run, Walk n' Roll Half Marathon in Los Angeles.
Wrapping up May with Memorial day weekend, May 27th, 28th, and 29th, a handful of half marathons to choose from. On Saturday the 27th, there is the Nitro Trail Half Marathon (a trail run in Pinole), Danville Half Marathon (an out and back course along the Iron Horse Trail through Danville and Alamo), and the Armed Forces Half Marathon in downtown Concord.
On Sunday the 28th, you have the Clif Bar Mountain 2 Beach Half Marathon (a point to point half marathon starting in Ojai, and winding through Ventura River Valley, ending at the beach in Ventura), and Lake Balboa Half Marathon (a two loop pretty flat course at Woodley Park in Van Nuys).
One half marathon on Memorial day, May 29th, wrapping up May for half marathons in California. The 19th annual Laguna Hills Memorial Day Half Marathon, honoring the United States Marine Corps Dark Horse Battalion, is a scenic, rolling hill point to point course, with a stretch through Wood Canyon Park and Aliso.

San Francisco Half Marathon in California
The Sunday July 31, 2016 San Francisco Half Marathon offers 2 courses to choose from for participants, the 1st course already being at capacity, which is the first half of the marathon course. The second half marathon course is the last half of the marathon course, running through Golden Gate State Park and historic neighborhoods, claimed to be a great choice for those aiming for a PR. Santa Cruz Trail Run Half Marathon in Felton California
The July 30, 2016 Santa Cruz Trail Run Half Marathon in Felton California is a course amongst giant redwoods, and a combination of single track, roads, paths and sand. Finisher medals and soft Green Layer tech shirts included, as well as post race food. The half marathon has 2,424' elevation gain, so be prepared for some climbing. Angel Island Half Marathon in San Francisco
The July 23, 2016 Angel Island Half Marathon is a scenic 2 loop trail run course with views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco and Alcatraz Island. A little spendy for a no frills race with no medal, but participants do receive a t-shirt. The half marathon is also not for walkers or hikers. The course time limit is 3 hours, requiring runners to maintain a pace of 13:45 or less per mile. The July 2016 Lake Merced Half Marathon in San Francisco California is a 3 loop course on jogging paths around Lake Merced. Walkers may start early, but are then not officially timed. For the official timed race, runners must maintain a max 15 min pace. This race appears to be an inexpensive, no frills race and doesn't appear to include a medal or shirt. The July 2016 Jungle Run Half Marathon runs through the streets of Las Gatos, along the scenic Las Gatos Creek and around Vasona Lake. There are some hills throughout this course and the time limit is not walker friendly, requiring runners to maintain a 15 minute max pace.
